Burwash Resort Clean Up

Project Details

Project Parameters

At the 2025 Kluane First Nation General Assembly, the community vote was unanimous for taking down the Burwash Landing Resort building.

There was an environmental assessment that determined there was some contamination in the building materials that had to be disposed of before the entire building could be demolished. Energy North Construction was hired to remove all lead, asbestos, metals, and other contaminants from the building in October and November of 2025.

Uplands Mining was awarded the contract to tear down the building and dispose of the building materials.

Plan to go forward:

  • Soil needs to be screened and cleaned to complete the disposal of the remaining demo building materials.
  • The old culverts need to be replaced with as it floods every spring across the existing roads and lower lot towards the lake.
  • Needs civil engineering and surveying is required for long term road connections to KFN land.
  • KCDLP needs approval from the KFN Community on what to do with the land with any long term land use decisions.
